We opened service number 12, and it’s our first in Newport.
Expanding by name, expanding by nature...We have just opened our first ever service in Newport! This service is called New Pastures and becomes the 12th service in the Expanding Horizons group. The opening of New Pastures is the latest addition in a sustained period of growth and it’s our 4th service to open in just two years.
Managing Director of Expanding Horizons, Tim Jenkins commented that “We are so pleased to be able to provide a supporting living service in Newport, just as we have in Torfaen, Caerphilly and Blaeanau Gwent over the last 17 years. We know there is demand for our services in the Newport area and we look forward to working closely with local health and social care teams to develop care and support solutions that meet the complex needs of local people experiencing enduring mental illness. We hope that New Pastures is the first of many in the area.”
Situated on the west side of Newport, this service is located in a quiet cul-de-sac. The property will provide supported living to two service users, with the potential of adding a studio flat later down the line. This new addition will not only benefit service users but will create at least 6 new jobs within the local community.
Group Manager Ellis Jenkins said “A two-person service is rare, with Oak View in Bargoed being the only other two-person service within the Expanding Horizons group; but judging by this example that work very well, and we are over the moon we can provide another service like this to Newport. We already have somebody to move in and we bought this property with them in mind. Now we must begin the process of finding a suitable housemate for them.”
“At Expanding Horizons, we really do go that extra mile to facilitate a good environment with compatibility in terms of property, location and personality matches for our service users. Our services are their home and it’s important to us that they feel that way.”
Over the next few years, we plan to develop our current services to increase occupancy levels and seek more opportunities to add more services to areas that have demand.
